Welcome
Mother's Day and Pentecost PDF Print E-mail

I would like to remind folks out there that Mother's Day is fast approaching. Have you thought about your Mother today? Well, if not, you better not forget her when May 11th rolls around!

May 11th is Mother's day and Youth Sunday. During the 10:30 service the St. Matthias youth will take an active role in the Sunday Eucharist service for St. Matthias. During this service we will also celebrate the women in our lives who have supported us through the thick and thin... our Mothers. Don't forget to honor your mother on this day. After all, without her where would you be?

Christians around the world will also be celebrating Pentecost on this day. Pentecost is derived from the Greek name for Shavuot, one of the three Pilgrimage Festivals required in the Law of Moses. For a fuller description of Pentecost, please see Leviticus 23:5-21 and Deuteronomy 16:8-10. Passover begins "in the fourteenth day of the first month (14 Nisan) at even", and the next day begins "the feast of unleavened bread unto the Lord" which lasts for seven days. This celebration also marks the beginning of harvest activities in Mediterranean climates.
